Your fierce red face is impressive
for one so fair. Shake your fist. Stand

When life gives you lemons
plant your feet and hurl them back

your ground, though it be like shards
of glass beneath your tender feet.
We won’t give in to your demands,

for your own good, because God knows
half an orphan is better than none.

but we’ll be patient until the squall has passed.
We marvel at how your tears can turn
an ordinary room into an aquarium 

Your fierce red face is impressive
for one so fair. Shake your fist. Stand

for your sea-green mother, merciful
goddess of the sea.
